We go to Europe: what to be prepared for
“Our Abroad” is an inexhaustible topic for jokes and caustic jokes of satirists. Laughing at the various oddities that happen to compatriots abroad is certainly fun. But you yourself hardly want to become a hero of such a story. Our information will help you prepare for a responsible business trip better and avoid unpleasant surprises.
Pack the suitcaseWhen collecting things for a trip, remember: a passion for shine, luxurious fabrics – this is a feature of the eastern mentality.
The West gravitates to restraint and moderation. Your clothes should be simple and elegant. In Europe, bright makeup, clothes with rhinestones and lurex are elements of an exclusively evening style, and until six in the evening to go out in such a way to people is a sign of bad taste. Draw conclusions. European women use cosmetics very moderately, so it’s worth taking makeup products with natural, muted tones. If you plan to travel in the winter, it is better not to take fur products. For some reason, all women in fur coats, fur hats, coats with fur collars almost always turn out to be visitors from the countries of the former Soviet Union. You can leave home and shoe polish. Every morning the streets of European cities are washed with special machines, they have less dirt and dust, so the shoes stay clean for a long time. For the same reason, Europeans, entering the apartment, do not take off their shoes.
The single customs office where you need to get out of the car (of course, if you are traveling by car) is Ukrainian. On all the rest, we politely hand the customs officer a passport through the window of the car. Customs inspection is rarely carried out, but it is worth knowing that only one block of cigarettes, one liter of strong alcoholic drinks, and two liters of wine are allowed to duty-free import into the EEC countries. Keep this in mind when preparing a gift. In addition to the above goods, you can also carry goods with a total value of up to 175 euros.
To get European autobahns from point A to point B, you will need at least six eyes (of course, think about what an exotic deity is). Or at least maximum attentiveness and concentration. After all, you need to drive a car, follow the road and on the map, and also, God forbid, do not miss the necessary exit from the autobahn. Skip it – you will lose a lot of time and nerves, you will be late wherever you can, and the funny thing is, going back will not always succeed. It’s also good to know how the word “congress” is written in the language of your country of residence.
If you have a mediocre knowledge of the language of the country where you are located, then a GPS navigator will be absolutely irreplaceable for you. The principle of operation of the device is simple: enter the name of the settlement that interests you, the satellite fixes your location in space and “leads” you through the area to the desired city using information on the scoreboard and voice commands. Passers-by do not need to ask about the road, because you still will not understand well what they answered. It is still very disappointing to see cozy hotels, tempting restaurants, huge shopping centers floating on both sides of the road, and you, hungry and tired, have no idea how to get there. You could already pass the congress to them, or maybe it is where forty kilometers from where you are. The only rule that always works is: the closest exit from the desired hotel leads in the opposite direction from it. And on foot to the desired resting place – a maximum of twenty meters. This is the famous paradox of European autobahns.
It’s very risky to go on a trip without first booking a hotel room or making sure that the receiving party has taken care of this. The situation when one hotel in a European city does not have a free room is not uncommon, especially during the season. When ordering a room, you should remember: before booking in European hotels they are very strict, therefore, if for some reason you cannot arrive at the hotel on time, call and inform the administrator. When you do not, your number will be given to someone else, or you will have to pay for a “strolled” day. In your room, try not to use drinks and snacks from the minibar: they are very expensive. You will see for yourself when you find the price list, although prudent hotel staff take care that it does not lie in a conspicuous place. On the hotel’s television, you can watch both free and paid channels, for which you will be charged an additional fee.
“I’m going home …”
Returning home, take care of the nervous system: it is very easy to get depressed, leaving the perfect European autobahns for what we call roads. Do not worry with sad thoughts about the political and economic difficulties of our state, it’s better to smile, because you are going home! And everyone knows: no matter how good it is at a party, home is still better.
