Where to go for diving enthusiasts
Dahab is a small town located on the Sinai Peninsula, where the Gulf of Aqaba is as wide as possible. When the weather is clear, the shores of Saudi Arabia are perfectly visible from Dahab.
Dahab is one of the most popular places among windsurfers and divers. A large number of tourists come to rest in this small town. Dahab from Arabic translates as “gold.”The local beaches are covered with golden sand, which against the background of blue bays seems even brighter. In the local cozy hotels, everything is created for the most comfortable stay of guests. Dahab is also great for relaxing with kids. The beaches have playgrounds, a gentle slope allows kids to swim in shallow water. Some hotels have educators who, with a special program, deal with children. The resort is famous for its low prices and fish restaurants. Most resort hotels are located on the coast of the bay, which is separated from the sea by a wide scythe. Nature has created excellent conditions for windsurfing. There are almost no huge waves, but almost always there is a wind that accompanies windsurfing.
From Dahab you can go on an excursion to the monastery of St. Catherine’s, in Colored Canyon, on Mount Moses, and also go to Luxor or Cairo. The height of Mount Moses is 2.28 km; thousands of pilgrims visit it every year. According to legend, it was on this mountain that God gave Moses 10 commandments. According to the legend, whoever will be on the mountain when the sun sets, all sins will be forgiven. Near the mountain is the monastery of St. Catherine is the oldest of the Orthodox monasteries in operation. Also in this place is growing “indefinable kupina”. The gifts that are stored under the monastery are available for inspection only to Russian tourists. Another amazing gift from nature is the Color Canyon. Stone and sandy rocks shimmering in a variety of colors – from bright red to white, will not leave anyone indifferent.
There are a couple of interesting places for divers near Dahab. The “Canyon” is considered to be the most interesting – this is a rocky plateau fracture 6–50 m wide. The next famous place is the “Blue Hole” – this is a practically steep well that goes into the reef. This is a dangerous place to dive, and therefore experienced divers should preferably dive.
